The Army Band

As part of the fundraising efforts of the Sgt. Matthew Locke MG Charity Match, The Army Band led by Capt. David Thompson will be joining us on the day and then backing up with a concert at C.ex Coffs on Sunday 26th February 2012.

The Australian Army Band Newcastle has existed as Newcastle’s own Military Band, under various names and ensemble types, since 1861.

Currently in a wind ensemble format, its highlights over the last 150 years are too numerous to list though the band is still going strong, providing the City of Newcastle and its surrounding regions with high quality performances from high quality performers. The Royal Australian Corps of Transport Pipes and Drums were established in 1952 as the 15th Northern Rivers Lancers. They have performed both interstate and abroad since their formation and today, feature some of the Hunter and Central Coast regions finest Pipers and Drummers.

The two ensembles often perform together incorporating a unique blend of sounds that consistently leave audiences coming back for more. If you feel you have what it takes to be a musician in the Australian Army Band Corps, drop us a line at: Newcastle.AAB@defence.gov.au

The concert will start at 2pm. Tickets are on sale at the club for $10. Proceeds raised will go to the Sgt. Matthew Locke MG Charity Match recipients.
