Annual Academic Awards 2013

award 1a  Students of Escola Pre-secondaria Foho Alico were awarded prizes for academic achievement for 2013. Prizes were given to the top academic students in Year 7, 8 and 9. One student also received the Sgt. Matthew Locke MG Award for English and the student who contributed the most to the life of the school and community  was awarded a citizenship award. Prizes were sponsored by the Grub Club and presented by our contact in East Timor Mr Jino Pereira. It is our intention to encourage academic achievement each year. Congratulations to all students and teachers on their hard work and great results.

The cement verandah was also fixed with Grub Club funds. There was an issue with crumbling cement.  The next meeting for the Grub Club will be held in January.

School Approaching Completion

The latest news from East Timor sees the near completion of Escola Pre-Secondaria Foho Ailico School. The four roomed school will be used in conjunction with other school buildings attached to the Boramba Primary School.

The next task will be to fill the rooms with desks and chairs, which our willing workers will be building themselves.

The Grub Club has assisted this process by providing funds for furniture.

We wait eagerly for photos of the final building.A big round of applause to the community of Bei Cala for their hard work and dedication to the project.

Lastest News From East Timor

View of school building November 2012

I have received regular correspondence from our Project Manager Jino Pereira in East Timor who has visited the site of the school recently and sent back these photos. As you can see the school now has a roof. They are still waiting on a loader for assistance in filling the foundations to floor level but the roof is on. This is a great relief as rainy season is nearly upon us and it means that the school can be finished no matter what the weather. Congratulations and keep up the good work to the community of Bei Cala. Meantime back home we continue to fundraise in order to finish and furnish the school.

The Grub Club committee has agreed to award students in Year 7, 8 and 9 for academic achievement at the end of the school year. Jino is also overseeing this activity and will be in consultation with Principal and Teachers and available at the ceremony. We look forward to hearing who the first recipients are. The Grub Club also decided to award, The Sgt. Matthew Locke English Prize to the student who makes the most progress in learning English and a Community Service Award to the student who gives back to their community. We will publish results once received. Best wishes to all students. View of Verandah November 2012
